Lent Groups

St Andrew’s Lent Course 2017
“Rev.” – Good News in a World of Struggle
In the BBC’s brilliant comedy “Rev.” we get alongside Rev Alan Smallbone and Alex, his wife, in their inner-city parish, and begin by wondering why on earth such a nice, well-meaning couple would put up with such an awful and unrewarding job. Surely stacking shelves in Tesco would be a better option! But gradually we see how their commitment to faith, hope and love can create moments of transforming joy in the midst of misery, and we start to recognise that there’s more to this Christianity business than leaky build-ings and difficult parishioners! Our Lent course this year will be based on 5 excepts from the series, ending with the powerful depiction of Good Friday in the last episode.
Commences week beg. 6th March. Details and sign-up leaflets at the back of church – or phone Rod on 652788

The Church is Open

I’m delighted to say that our church building is now open from Morning Prayer at 8.30 am till about 4 pm each day. We’ve had to install CCTV for security, but as this now allows us to be open for visitors and pilgrims every day!

I recently visited – or tried to visit – All Saints’ Church, Maidstone, where Sue and I were married. It’s a major church in the centre of a large town, but it was locked up, with no indication at all as to when it might be open or how to find a key. The disappointment I felt made me realise how happy I am that we can finally be open for such occasions – and for the many, many people who value a time of quiet, reflection or prayer at all times of the week.

We’ve been experimenting now since October and I’m pleased to report that we’ve had not one single problem – and that every visitor has valued our beautiful building and treated it with respect.

The more people who come in and out of the building, the safer it will continue to be.

It’s your church – do make use of it!

Every blessing

Rod

 Friday 17th – Sunday 19th March

 Led by Fr. Elias Polonski

Elias Polonski is a retired Anglican priest living in Malmesbury, but has in the past been a Benedictine monk at Douai Abbey in Berkshire. He is American and  the son of a Polish father and Italian mother.

He now lives a simple  life without car, computer or mobile phone!  He draws on the spirituality of a wide range of Christian traditions as well as other faiths and is passionate about “Creation Theology”, seeking God in all created things, not exclusively as revealed in the doctrine of the church.

On our retreat, Elias wants to reflect on “the joy of being” and he will offer reflections and meditations  to help us in that adventure.

Booking forms for the retreat are available at the back of church, or if you would like further information, do speak to Rod (01249 652788)

Taizé Evening Prayer 6.30pm Sunday 19th Feb

The music of Taizé has transformed the worship of the church across the world and has especially resonated with younger people who often find church alienating and inaccessible. With simple readings, prayers and a time of silence, the time of worship is shaped by the beautiful chants of Brother Jaques Bertier – repeated simple tunes and phrases, often with improvised accompaniment from instruments, or a solo verse sung above

This is the first Taizé service we have held at St Andrew’s and we warmly welcome you to join for this hour of meditative worship.

If you play an instrument, please bring it along. There is a rehearsal for singers and instruments from 5.30 pm, but you are are also welcome simply to come for the service at 6.30 pm.

Amongst the chants we will be using are “Confitemini Domino”, “Ubi Caritas” “Da Pacem”, “Nunc Dimitis” and “Laudate Omnes Gentes”
